The local bar association provided forms and some legal assistance. Hearing officers provided forms in protective order hearings.
16th JDC
Petitions and pauper forms are provided during court hearings. Defendants are given detailed instructions regarding completion of the forms. The completion and filing of these forms allow individuals to have a hearing officer conference to try to develop a joint custody implementation plan or visitation plan and, if necessary, a court hearing on the issue. The St. Martin Parish Family Court Program regularly provides pro se forms to litigants and refers persons needing assistance to the Lafayette Parish Bar Self Help kiosk. The St. Mary Parish Family Court program provides, on its website, pro se forms in child support for requests for modification of child support and pro se forms for issues involving custody so that individuals who cannot afford attorneys can get custody issues before the court. The court's website includes a link to the Louisiana State Bar Association.
