9th JDC | The court began a pilot phase wherein hearing officer conferences were provided to domestic or family law members when one or both of the parties is self-represented. The hearing officer, an MSW, offers these conferences in effort to move these matters quickly in an environment easier for self-represented litigants to understand and navigate to ultimately resolve the dispute. |
15th JDC | The 15th JDC assisted the Lafayette Volunteer Lawyers by helping to update their forms. Family Court law clerks, hearing officers, and the Family Court drug court administrator prepare judgments for self-represented litigants to expedite bringing their cases to conclusion. |
16th JDC | St. Martin Parish Family Court Program regularly refers persons needing assistance to the Lafayette Parish Bar Self-Help kiosk. The program provides self-represented-litigant forms for custody and child support, as well as information on the Self-Represented Litigants Campaign.The St. Martin Parish district court receptionist provides forms and information to court users upon request. Also, signs are posted from the Self-Represented Litigants Campaign in high traffic areas of the St. Martin Parish courthouse. |
