1) The Mental Health-Criminal Justice Collaborative, a subcommittee of the Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee (CJCC) in Lafayette Parish, held two structured networking events as a forum to bring together public and private agencies and individuals to learn more about various agencies and their work in this area, in order to develop and strengthen coordination of supports and services. The subcommittee's goal is to develop solutions to reduce the number of individuals entangled within the criminal justice system. Providers have agreed to work toward expediting qualification for Medicare/Medicaid funding to provide treatment rather than incarceration. This resulted in a more appropriate solution for the offender and also reduces jail population. 2) Educational sessions were scheduled to provide Crisis Intervention Training for law enforcement, to help officers identify situations involving mentally ill individuals. 3) CJCC participated in Lafayette PD's initial Police Community Relations Committee, including the Community Pep Rally held in June.
