Objective

4.3 To use fair employment practices and to train and develop the court’s human resources

Intent of the Objective

The judiciary stands as an important and visible symbol of government. Equal treatment of all persons before the law is essential to the concept of justice. Accordingly, the courts should operate free of bias in their personnel practices and decisions. Fairness in the recruitment, compensation, supervision, and development of court personnel helps to ensure judicial independence, accountability, and organizational competence. Fairness in employment also helps establish the highest standards of personal integrity and competence among employees

Additional actions taken by the courts to address this objective
BATON ROUGE CITY COURT
The court reviewed and updated department rules for employees as needed. The rules are also reviewed on an annual basis by the city-parish Human Resources Department and the Parish Attorney's Office. The court also implemented a yearly training schedule that focuses on professional development, EEO, ADA, team building, etc. The court also implemented a supervisors training that allows each supervisor to present on a managerial topic in an interactive group environment. Each division of the court is responsible for designating a training clerk and for providing a written training plan for each new employee (designated training workstations are setup in each division of the court). Technology training is provided by our IT staff on an as needed basis. Our personnel deputy administrator provides annual training to staff and the court hosts an annual professional development day that consist of an outside speaker and breakout sessions.
JEFFERSON PARISH 1ST PARISH COURT
HR directors attended offsite seminars and in-house webinars to stay informed with new laws/policies & procedures.
JEFFERSON PARISH 2ND PARISH COURT
The judges and select staff members attended seminars that included information on human resources. Also, the staff was provided training and development both in-house and through the parish's human resources department.
KAPLAN CITY COURT
The court maintained human resources training through continuing legal education.
LAFAYETTE CITY COURT
The court regularly brings in nationally-known people to train the staff.
MONROE CITY COURT
The court assessed and evaluated all of its HR policies and procedures. The court also adopted new policies to ensure that all employees were in compliance with all applicable laws.
